This notice explains how Saga collects, uses, and protects personal data when you visit our website or use our language-learning product.
Who we are
Saga provides language-learning software at saga.study. For privacy questions or requests, contact us at felix@saga.study.
For the purposes of EU and UK data protection law, Saga is the controller for personal data we collect when you use our website and product, except where a service provider acts as an independent controller under its own terms.
Personal data we collect
Account data, such as your name, email address, authentication identifiers, subscription status, and account settings.
Learning data, such as target languages, onboarding answers, tutor messages, scenario transcripts, study progress, saved preferences, and feedback you submit.
Voice and media data when you use speech features, such as audio recordings or transcriptions needed to provide pronunciation, speech-to-text, or text-to-speech features.
Payment and billing data, such as Stripe customer, subscription, invoice, checkout, and plan identifiers. We do not store full card numbers.
Technical and usage data, such as device/browser information, approximate location from IP address, logs, cookie identifiers, pages viewed, errors, and conversion events.
How we use personal data
To provide, secure, and maintain Saga, including sign-in, checkout, subscriptions, language-learning sessions, tutoring features, and customer support.
To personalize your learning experience, remember your preferences, generate tutor context, and track study progress.
To monitor reliability, debug errors, prevent abuse, enforce usage limits, and improve the product.
With your consent, to measure website performance, advertising effectiveness, and free-trial conversions, and to personalize ads.
To comply with legal obligations, enforce our terms, and protect the rights, safety, and security of users and Saga.
Legal bases
Contract: we process account, learning, billing, and usage data where needed to provide Saga and manage your subscription.
Legitimate interests: we process limited technical, security, support, and product-improvement data to keep Saga reliable and safe, where those interests are not overridden by your rights.
Consent: we use optional analytics and marketing cookies only after you accept them. You can withdraw consent at any time using Cookie settings in the footer.
Legal obligation: we process data where needed for tax, accounting, compliance, or lawful requests.
Cookies and similar technologies
Strictly necessary cookies are required for security, sign-in, checkout, and remembering your cookie preferences. These cannot be disabled through our cookie banner.
Analytics cookies help us understand visits, site performance, and product usage so we can improve Saga.
Marketing cookies help us measure ads and personalize advertising, including Google Ads free-trial conversion measurement and Meta Pixel ad measurement.
You can accept all, reject all, or manage optional categories in the cookie banner. Your choice is stored for 180 days unless you clear browser cookies sooner.
Service providers
We use trusted service providers to operate Saga. These may include hosting and database providers, authentication providers such as Clerk, payment providers such as Stripe, analytics and advertising providers such as Google, Meta, and PostHog, and AI/voice providers used to power language-learning features.
These providers process personal data only as needed to provide their services to us or as otherwise described in their own terms and privacy notices.
International transfers
Saga and our service providers may process personal data outside your country, including outside the European Economic Area. Where required, we rely on safeguards such as adequacy decisions, standard contractual clauses, and provider security commitments.
Retention
We keep personal data for as long as needed to provide Saga, maintain account history, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, prevent abuse, and enforce agreements.
You may request account deletion. Some records may be retained for a limited period where required for tax, accounting, security, backup, or legal reasons.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to, or receive a copy of your personal data.
Where processing is based on consent, you can withdraw consent at any time. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that happened before withdrawal.
If you are in the EEA or UK, you may also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Children
Saga is not intended for children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal data to us, contact us so we can take appropriate action.

We may update this notice as Saga changes. When updates are material, we will take reasonable steps to notify users or highlight the updated notice.
